Toyota factory in Thailand Closed Two Weeks


Toyota Motor Thailand will stop production for two weeks in one of its factories in Thailand at the end of this month. The goal is to improve production and supply network of Toyota products in the country. Explains a company spokesman, as quoted by the Bangkok Post today.

It added that closure will not be followed by termination of employment (FLE). Also described are not related to the political situation in that country an increasingly tense between the government and the faction loyal followers of Thaksin Shinawatra, the "Red Shirt", which clashed in downtown Bangkok.

Just described, the factory employs 950 employees with total production of 50,000 units per year. Furthermore, Toyota will move production to near Bangkok Thai Auto Works, which assemble SUV Fortuner and Hilux pickup, which was in Samrong, Samrong Prakan province outside Bangkok.

Last-mentioned plant began operations in 1988 and produced 60 000 units of vehicles per year for export to Europe and Asia Pacific. In Thailand, Toyota has four factories that used to be the center of regional production and exports.
